Learning every day
Ellis got a degree in biomedical sciences. “Prior to Cefetra, I was working in scientific industries. I developed a strong background in quality assurance there. This enabled me to become a Quality, Health & Safety Officer with Cefetra Ltd. four years ago. I enjoy my job a lot.”
“During my application process, I was asked to explain what I would do in certain situations and why. This way, I got a closer look at Cefetra’s day-to-day business. I became even more interested.” The buying and trading of raw materials from across the world – it was all completely new to me. I’m still learning every day.”
Part of Ellis’ job is to make sure all these materials are tested. “We have several grain storage facilities, including two locations where we have dedicated laboratories. It’s up to us to make sure the procedures are in place and all the equipment is up to speed. We also look at relevant legislation for each country to make sure we’re supplying products in a safe manner.”
“I am responsible for training our new employees, introducing them to our quality requirements. In addition, I’m highly involved with auditing, working alongside our various departments. We perform audits with our suppliers and sister companies from Cefetra Group as well. It’s exciting to work with all these people across Europe.”

Delivering change
“When I first started, the company was starting to expand rapidly. It was a good time to join. I’ve been able to get to know all the new faces,” says Ellis. “There is a great teamworking environment here at our office in Glasgow. Quality is everyone’s business and so we all work together. The Execution team is in touch with the Quality department all the time, the Finance team is, and so on. We assist all of them.”
He is proud of Cefetra’s efforts. “As our company expands, things are changing for the better. We’re delivering change by introducing smarter ways of working. There is a strong digital transformation going on. It’s also good to see our company take a solid approach to sustainability. Getting our strategy in place, spreading awareness, improving our operation.”
Bigger picture
“I’m proud of the team I work with. We’re always sharing our expertise to improve our work. If there’s a problem, we will face it together. Decisions we make are always part of a bigger picture. That makes me feel good about my job.”
Ellis says having a thirst for knowledge is quite important at Cefetra. “You need to put in the effort to learn about the products and the processes. Because we are such a diverse company and a unique company, you’re learning a lot as you go. Visiting different sites and offices will prove valuable as well.”
